Job summary

South Dakota State Government seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Human Services Center in Yankton, SD. This part-time position (< 20 hours weekly) offers opportunities to prepare and administer medications, manage treatments, and maintain patient records, with shift schedules between 0630 and 2300 and every third weekend/holiday.

The ideal candidate will be licensed in SD, capable of lifting 75 lbs, and comfortable following physician orders. Veterans' preference applies; background checks and drug screening are required.

Qualifications

Location: Yankton, SD Salary: $26.79 - $31.50 Hourly, depending on qualifications.

Summary

This position provides patient care within the scope of practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by preparing and administering prescribed medications and treatments, IV therapies, maintaining medical records, and monitoring work of subordinates to ensure quality care is provided and in compliance with patient care procedures and department policies.

This position primarily works 12-hour shifts scheduled between 0630 and 2300 depending on the need of the program; every third weekend and Holiday required.

This position is eligible for additional shift pay:

$1.00 Geriatric pay plus $2.00 per hour pm shift differential / $5.00 per hour noc shift differential, plus $1.50 weekend pay

Licenses and Certifications

Must be licensed as a practical nurse in South Dakota.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Knowledge of

• the principles and techniques of patient care;
• hospital routine and procedures;
• medication administration (oral, topical, intramuscular and intravenous);
• the care and use of medical equipment and supplies.

Ability to

• evaluate client behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medications;
• follow physician/provider orders;
• prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports;
• apply nursing techniques as delegated by physicians or registered nurses;
• establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff;
• lift 75 lbs.;
• direct and monitor direct care personnel.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
