Job summary

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time LPN to perform nursing services on our Med/Surg Unit. The LPN will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and provide medications and treatments in a timely manner to patients.

The role includes direct patient care, patient education support, and collaboration with the nursing team to maintain high standards of care. Cross-training and unit teamwork are emphasized to ensure comprehensive patient support.

Qualifications

• Graduate from school for Licensed Practical Nurse and be currently licensed in West Virginia.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) required.
• On-the-job orientation provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care.
• Administer medications by PO, IM and IVPB with safe, timely documentation.
• Safeguard medications and narcotics.
• Assist with starting and maintaining IVs.
• Accurate documentation of care and patient records.
• Support patient education with other disciplines.
• Assist with unit cleanliness and admission/discharge assessments.
• Respect patient privacy and rights; follow care plans.
• Report observations to the registered nurse and work closely with the nursing team.
• Assist in orienting new staff and participate in quality improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

• Provides direct patient care.
• Administers medications including PO, IM and IV PB in a safe and timely manner. Accurately documents administration of medications.
• Responsible for safe-guarding medications and narcotics.
• Starts and assists with the maintenance of IV's.
• Accurate documentation of care.
• Assists with patient education, in collaboration with other disciplines.
• Assists with unit cleanliness.
• Assists with admission assessments and discharge assessments.
• Respects patient privacy, rights and respects values of individual patients and provides care accordingly.
• Takes responsibility as assigned for providing care for a given group of patients according to the care plan provided by the registered nurse. Works under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
• Reports observations and pertinent information to registered nurse.
• Works closely and harmoniously with registered nurse.
• Assists in orienting new employees.
• Administers nursing care in a safe and timely manner according to hospital policies, procedures and philosophy.
• Completes all annual competencies.
• Performs other duties that may be assigned.
• Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
• Must be able to cross-train to other units.

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING

Graduate from school for Licensed Practical Nurse, and currently licensed in the state of West Virginia. BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
