*The position will be based in Lancaster, PA, and will focus on handling incoming phone calls from patients and working on a variety of asynchronous clinical duties to support ambulatory practice sites including clinical messages, prior-authorizations, and other duties.


The actual location is the Penn State Health Lancaster Administrative Building, 1600 Cloister Drive, Lancaster, PA.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Two blocks from Harrisburg’s famous Front Street lies the Penn State Health Medical Group – Harrisburg office that is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join its ranks! The Harrisburg office oversees several specialties including, but not limited to: Newborn to Geriatric Family Practice, Obstetrics, Trauma-Psych Therapy, Infectious Disease, and Addiction Therapy.


The hired LPN will be expected to oversee the rooming of patients while taking vitals and handling medicine reconciliation. Other responsibilities include phlebotomy, administering injections, conducting EKGs, and assisting with in-house procedures. Some clerical duties also apply, which include making inbound/outbound phone calls and monitoring the e-message pool for patient inquiries.


The desired Licensed Practical Nurse will be a prompt and professional employee who is team-oriented and has excellent bedside manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES -The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:


  • Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the direction of a registered nurse/physician according to the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act, and established institutional and unit policies.
  • Observes, reports and records medical information and nursing care provided in the medical record and/or electronic medical record.
  • Administers medications in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Instructs patients and families according to the teaching plan overseen by a Registered Nurse/Physician.
  • Communicates with the healthcare team to facilitate the coordination of individualized patient care. Works with manager to ensure timely management of phone messages, e-messages, forms completion, etc. and in congruence with organizational policy.
  • Improves and maintains professional knowledge and skills by attending and integrating new knowledge obtained through in-service, continuing education, and programs to include both written and verbal communications.
  • Participates in problem-solving, planning and improvement of patient care activities including, but not limited to assisting in research, quality improvement and evidence based practice activities.
  • Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Currently licensed to practice as a licensed practical nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate LPN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required prior to completion of orientation.
