Qualifications

• LPN licensure required and current nursing license.
• Experience with care for individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to follow care plans and document accurately.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and prescribed treatments.
• Take vital signs and monitor patient conditions.
• Assist with care plan activities and rehabilitation.
• Observe, report, and communicate patient status to staff.
• Oversee delegation to direct support professionals.
• Coordinate with doctors, patients, and families.
• Educate patients on care and safety.
• Transport clients to offsite appointments; apply restraints when necessary.

The Missouri Department of Mental Health has an opening for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Southwest Community Services (SWCS) located in Nevada. The working hours are 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., Sunday through Thursday.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Semi Monthly Salary: $2,539.63, plus a $2 per hour shift differential for hours worked from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. (Pay Grade N1). The salary indicated is a base pay rate. This position is eligible for years of service pay differential (1% pay increase for every 2 years of service, capped at 10%).

Responsibilities:

• This is a licensed practical nurse (LPN) position accountable for administering medication and other prescribed treatments;
• taking vital signs;
• assisting with care plan activities;
• observing and reporting patient conditions and behaviors;
• and participating in rehabilitation, ambulation, and transfers.
• LPN’s oversee the delegation of work to the direct support professional;
• communicate with doctors, patients, and families;
• and educate patients on care.
• May transport clients to offsite appointments and apply restraints when necessary.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Knowledge of current nursing theory, practices, and techniques;
• skills in applying practical nursing principles with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities;
• ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers and the public;
• ability to complete assignments within specified timeframes;
• ability to develop and implement procedures from general instructions;
• ability to work weekends, holidays, and/or required overtime;
• and ability to fulfill on-call responsibility on a 9-week rotation.
