Job summary

SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide care that is individualized and consistent with the plan of care and with standards of care/practice. The role involves reporting changes to the RN, administering medications, performing vital signs, drawing blood, obtaining EKGs, and assisting with patient and family teaching. CPR current and 1 year post-licensure experience preferred; day shift with every other weekend and some holidays.

Qualifications

• Candidate must possess or be eligible to obtain a NYS LPN license.
• Current CPR certification.
• 1 year post-licensure nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized nursing care within the plan of care and standards of practice.
• Report any change in patient condition to the RN and administer medications.
• Obtain vital signs and perform procedures such as drawing blood and obtaining EKGs.
• Assist with patient and family teaching as directed by the RN.
• Contribute to a safe working environment and teamwork; support unit operations.
• Assist with heavy lifting as required by patient care.

Job Summary:

Administers care that is individualized and is consistent with the plan of care and with standards of care/practice (Reports to RN any change in patient condition, administers medications, functions independently, within area of practice); Demonstrates clinical skills for work area (completes unit specific skills/competencies; Demonstrates knowledge of normal growth and development in the delivery of care; Incorporates patient/family/significant other teaching into routine care under the direction of the RN; Adjusts work routine to meet changing unit and patient conditions; Fosters team building spirit (assist new staff members integration into the team; Contributes to plan of care, as well as implementation of plan; Maintains a safe working environment; Fosters a positive public relations with patients, families and staff. Medication administration, obtaining vital signs, drawing blood, obtaining EKG's, hands on nursing care and some heavy lifting required. Current CPR, 1 year post licensure nursing experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain a license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.

Work Days:

Day shift- every other weekend and some holidays
