Medical University of South Carolina Community Physicians (MCP) is seeking an RN II for Lexington County Detention Center. The role provides nursing care 36 hours per week, 7:00am–7:00pm, directing a care team within a secure correctional environment.

Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, collaboration with multidisciplinary staff, and adherence to PREA and safety standards. Requires RN licensure and at least 1 year of RN experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing preferred.
• RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must enroll in a BSN within two years and complete it within four years.
• Minimum one year of RN experience required.

• Delivers care to inmates following correctional safety protocols.

Job Description

Lexington County Detention Center

36 hrs/week

7:00am - 7:00pm

Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide age/developmentally appropriate care. Provides patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Conducts assessments, develops nursing diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans and implements interventions, provides health teaching, and evaluates care. Ensures a therapeutic environment and participates in professional governance and development. Correctional-specific responsibilities include:

• Delivering nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols.
• Responding promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter (medical emergencies, injuries, suicide attempts, etc.).
• Managing care in intake/booking, general population, segregation, and medical observation units.
• Coordinating with correctional officers for safe inmate movement and maintaining awareness of the security environment.
• Maintaining strict control and accountability of sharps, medications, and clinical tools.
• Ensuring proper boundaries, communication standards, and compliance with PREA expectations.
• Documenting care in accordance with correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations when applicable.

Minimum Education and Experience

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Licensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required
