Job summary

Qualifications

Job Description

General Functions

Performs nursing duties requiring skills and judgments in the care and treatment of patients in a correctional setting using nursing principles and techniques for a variety of patient problems.

Direct supervision is received from the RN, the nursing supervisor and/or staff physician.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

• Primary duties functions as medication and treatment nurse.
• Monitors medication compliance in accordance with established protocols.
• Accurately documents the administration of medication and treatments provided. Observes patients for deviations from normal conditions, documents changes and notifies appropriate.
• Carries out treatment plans as established by the medical team.
• Obtains urine, blood and other specimens for laboratory examinations.
• Assists physicians in clinic areas.
• Responds to all emergencies.
• Maintains unit compliance for inspections.
• Participates in in-service training programs and mandatory continuing education.
• Provides routine clinic tasks as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have a current valid Florida License Practical Nurse license.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts; including nights and weekends.

Preferences

Medical/surgical nursing experience.
