Job summary

Hampton City Schools seeks a licensed practical nurse (LPN) to support health services at Andrews PK-8 School. You will screen, provide first aid, administer medications, and coordinate care under the Health Services Coordinator.

Requirements include Virginia LPN license, BLS, experience with school-age health issues, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This is a full-time, 10-month position with immediate start.

Employment Period:10 months

Employment Status:Full-Time

Pay Grade (H-12):$19.44 -- $33.05

Start Date:Immediately

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assists in providing health care by conducting health screenings, assessing health needs, providing first aid/emergency care and health counseling under the supervision of the School Nurse in order to advance the well-being and academic success of students under the direction of the Health Services Coordinator.
  • Provides routine medical care and first aid to students, staff, and faculty. Administers medication and performs treatments and procedures as prescribed by a physician. Complies with established procedures for sending ill/injured persons home or to a medical treatment facility.
  • Implements student healthcare plans on students with special healthcare needs.
  • Conducts routine vision/hearing screenings as required by Virginia regulation, including referrals and follow-up.
  • Assists in the maintenance and updating of health records and maintains accurate documentation and confidentiality of information.
  • Serves as a health resource person to the school and community.
  • Assists RN in promoting wellness through publications, presentations and visits to classrooms.
  • Communicates with students, staff, faculty, parents, and other medical resource persons to share information and to determine appropriate actions in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Virginia LPN License.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Considerable nursing experience related to health issues inherent in school age children preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
