Requirements To Be A Licensed Practical Nurse at Tidewater Physicians for Women:
- Virginia LPN License
- Must be able to travel to both our locations: Norfolk, VA, and Virginia Beach, VA
- Medical office experience preferred

Responsibilities
The licensed practical nurse is responsible for providing professional medical care for patients under the physician's supervision nurse practitioner. The LPN will assist providers and staff in coordinating patient care and functions as the primary liaison between patients, staff, and providers. The ability to maintain confidentiality concerning patients, co-workers, and all job assignments is imperative.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deals with patient needs expeditiously.
- Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
- Obtains authorization from insurance carriers for specialized tests and specialist appointments.
- Maintains timely patient flow: escorts patient to exam room and orients to surroundings, takes vital signs, documents patient history, and reason for visit, and prepares patient for anticipated procedure(s).
- Documents in patient chart appropriately: vital signs, test results, prescriptions called to the pharmacy, patient telephone conversations, and files processed medical information in patient records.
- Assists providers with procedures.
- Implements physician orders.
- Answers routine patient medical inquiries.
- Acts as a resource to patient: informs patient of information as directed by provider and gathers information from patient to present a total picture regarding patient problem/concern.
- Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies, materials and equipment. Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms.
- Educates patients and their families about diagnostic procedures, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Evaluates patient's needs and determines the urgency of the appointment following medical provider protocol.
- Schedules patients for appointments in other departments and clinics. Provides patients with basic information on referral physicians and other facilities for further care.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
