Performs LPN functions, facilitates communications & assists with patient care from infancy to geriatrics in the office setting under the supervision of the provider.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities

• Uses only approved abbreviations.
• Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
• Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.
• Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process.
• Understands procedure to clarify physician orders.
• Uses standing orders when indicated.
• Accurately calls report to MD as warranted by condition; reports to other providers as needed.
• Reports sentinel events or adverse drug reactions or incidents as warranted.
• Uses final verification before invasive procedures & can verbalize correct process & documents in EHR.
• Reassesses patient in response to changes in condition after intervention as needed & documents in EHR.
• Assists front office as needed in answering phones, updating, documenting & scanning patient’s health records, handling correspondence.
• Arranging for hospital admissions.
• Outpatient test scheduling.
• Taking medical histories.
• Taking & recording vital signs
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
• Preparing patients for exams & assisting in exams as needed.
• Performs basic laboratory blood draws
• Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills as directed & telephone to pharmacy.
• Electrocardiograms
• Remove sutures if permitted by physician & change dressing.
• Schedule outpatient testing & referrals to specialist.
• Keep inventory supplies & order if necessary for front office.
• Change message on answering machine as needed.
• Close out daily journal & attach payments to journal & compile all routing slips for the day & give to biller for charge entry.
• Update transaction journal.
• Keep record of petty cash drawer & daily balance.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to communicate & work well with physician & staff.
• Must have strong verbal & written communication skills.
• Able to perform phlebotomy
• Able to operate office equipment, i.e. computers, phones, fax & copy machine.
