The plumber will perform preventive maintenance, respond to emergencies, and ensure compliance with plumbing codes. Job Summary
Summary:
Under general supervision of the Plumbing Supervisor is responsible for operation and maintenance of all Acid Waste systems, closed water loop treatment and coordination of associated vendors. Also responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and testing piping systems, including but not limited to water, fire protection, sewerage & medical gases.
May be required to work weekends or rotating shifts.
May be required to carry the on-call pager.

Essential Functions:
-Shall be responsible for water, sanitary, sewerage and medical systems and its associated auxiliary equipment.
-Perform Preventive Maintenance, testing and repairs on the acid waste and closed loop chemical systems throughout the facility.
-Sample, test and report violations per MWRA compliance.
-Maintains accurate logs, records and daily work sheets (including PM reports). Record daily pH reading.
-Respond to MV/RA violations as well as sampling protocol established through The MWRA guidelines.
-Must be an approved sampler by MWRA.
-Reads and interprets blueprints (piping drawings) for various information such as piping locations, system labeling and proper system tie-ins.
-Conducts surveys of various systems.
-Prepares material listing as required, orders and maintains stock and spare parts inventory.
-Responsibilities may involve participating in planning activity at the departmental level or assisting in the development of solutions to specific problems.
-Maintains a safe and clean work environment in areas of Engineering Department responsibility as assigned.
-Maintain proper Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).
-Responds to calls from all areas of the hospital as assigned by supervisor.
-Communicates with other employees and management on necessary information regarding process water and plumbing systems.
-Interface and coordinate appropriate vendor relationships.
-Maintains appropriate records of testing and other assigned duties.
-Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
-Respond to all emergency plumbing situations when and where appropriate.
-Ensure compliance with appropriate plumbing codes.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma required

Formal technical plumbing training generally beyond high school required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Requires interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and to cooperate with staff throughout the hospital.
- Must be able to clearly explain plumbing issues to other personnel.
- Requires analytical skills to evaluate systems and to develop appropriate solutions to plumbing problems.
- Requires physical ability to lift over 30 lbs. (less than 15% of the time). Work on a ladder.
- Requires knowledge of plumbing supplies and equipment and the ability to read blueprints and piping diagrams.
- Requires the ability to work independently.
- Refers to supervisory staff for clarification or exception to established policies and procedures.
- Must be able to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations at a level generally acquired through completion of high school.
