Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the registered physical therapist, administers therapeutic modalities with specialized equipment; instructs patients; supervises established therapeutic exercises and functional activities; fits and instructs patients in orthopedic appliances.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Patient Healthcare: Instruct patients on health and self-care procedures, review and explain physician orders, instruct on home equipment use, apply orthopedic appliances and dressings, follow infection control procedures, initiate emergency procedures including CPR, monitor vital signs and patient reactions, prepare patients for procedures, provide therapeutic care, assist with ambulation and exercises, conduct group classes, evaluate responses, and document patient data.
- Equipment and Instruments: Ensure availability and cleanliness of equipment, set up traction devices, restock treatment rooms, maintain and repair equipment, sterilize instruments, and perform routine maintenance.
- Materials and Supplies: Order and dispose of supplies as needed.
- Administrative and Other: Participate in training and in-service programs, ensure safety procedures, coordinate activities, train staff and students, maintain licensure, handle communications, and serve as a resource for colleagues.
- Patient Procedures and Activities: Explain procedures, assemble educational materials, demonstrate equipment, assist with examinations, consult with providers, observe and monitor patient conditions, and manage orthopedic devices.
- Other Activities and Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as directed.
