Responsibilities

As a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), you play a vital role in the rehabilitation team, working under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain movement, reduce pain, and restore function after injury, illness, or surgery. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Patient Care Implementation: Assist in executing treatment plans developed by the physical therapist to meet patients' rehabilitation goals and needs.
  • Therapeutic Exercise and Activities: Lead patients through prescribed exercises and activities, instructing proper techniques, monitoring progress, and providing feedback to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Modalities and Physical Agents: Apply treatment modalities correctly, monitor patient responses, and adjust treatments as needed for optimal outcomes.
  • Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on injury prevention, body mechanics, and pain management techniques.
  • Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track patient responses, document progress, and communicate updates to the supervising physical therapist, collaborating on treatment adjustments as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license/certification in the state of practice
