Responsibilities

As a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), you play a vital role in the rehabilitation team, working under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain movement, reduce pain, and restore function after injury, illness, or surgery. Your primary responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Implementation: Assist in executing treatment plans created by the physical therapist to meet patients' rehabilitation goals and functional needs.
  2. Therapeutic Exercise and Activities: Guide patients through prescribed exercises and activities to improve their physical function and recovery. Educate patients on proper techniques, monitor progress, and provide feedback to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  3. Modalities and Physical Agents: Properly apply treatment modalities, observe patient responses, and adjust treatments to achieve optimal outcomes.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on injury prevention, proper body mechanics, and pain management techniques.
  5. Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track patient responses to treatments, document progress, and communicate updates to the supervising physical therapist to adjust care plans as needed.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license or certification in the state of practice
