Metropolitan Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics – St. Paul & Fridley is seeking a Licensed Orthodontic Assistant to join our pediatric-focused team. You will support orthodontists, prepare treatment areas, and help maintain high standards of infection control.

This role emphasizes patient education and a compassionate approach for children and families. Previous orthodontic assisting experience is required.

Qualifications

• Licensed Orthodontic Assistant required.
• Prior orthodontic assisting experience is required.
• Ability to educate patients and parents on oral hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Assist orthodontist with placing and removing brackets, archwires and bands.
• Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments and set up equipment.
• Take accurate scans/impressions for orthodontic appliances.
• Maintain infection control and sterilization standards.
• Educate children and parents on oral hygiene and post-treatment care.
• Manage patient flow and scheduling, minimizing wait times.
• Record patient information and treatment plans in the EHR.
• Support behavior management during procedures and reassure anxious patients.
• Collaborate with team members to support a positive pediatric dental experience.

Metropolitan Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics is a specialty dental & orthodontics practice certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. We provide expert pediatric dental care and orthodontics for infants, toddlers, children, pre-teens, and teens at our 4 locations throughout the Twin Cities, including St. Paul, Fridley, North Oaks, and Eagan. Job Responsibilities

• Assisting Orthodontist: Placing and removing orthodontic brackets, archwires, and bands.
• Patient Preparation: Prepare treatment areas, sterilize and set up necessary instruments and equipment. Ensure patient comfort by explaining procedures and addressing any concerns.
• Take accurate scans/impressions of patients’ teeth for the creation of orthodontic appliances.
• Sterilization & Infection Control: Maintain high standards of sterilization and infection control protocols, ensuring that all dental instruments and equipment are properly sanitized and safe for use.
• Patient Education: Educate children and their parents on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions. Provide guidance on nutrition and the importance of regular dental visits.
• Managing Patient Flow: Ensure that the patient flow remains efficient by managing appointment schedules, assisting with patient transitions between procedures, and keeping wait times minimal.
• Documentation & Recordkeeping: Accurately record patient information, including medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Behavior Management Support: Assist in managing anxious or uncooperative pediatric patients with calming techniques, distraction methods, and appropriate behavioral guidance during procedures.
• Collaboration with Team Members: Work closely with orthodontist, office staff, and parents to create a supportive, compassionate environment that prioritizes the well‑being of young patients.
• Previous orthodontic assisting experience required.
