Job summary

A leading optical service provider in California is seeking a Licensed Optician to provide exceptional patient care in eyewear selection and prescription oversight. The ideal candidate will be state board certified with a background in eyewear experience and strong customer service skills. Qualifications

  • Must be state board certified licensed dispensing optician.
  • 2-5 years of related eyewear experience in a similar office environment.
  • Strong comfort with optical and lens-related concerns.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with automated equipment and systems standard to the optometry industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patients with exceptional customer service.
  • Guide patients in eyewear selection.
  • Analyze and assess vision problems.
  • Provide oversight on all prescriptions throughout the office.
  • Maximize sales using the company’s sales concepts (promotion focus, products, coatings, warranties, second pairs, backups).
  • Maximize insurance plans for patients and explain benefits.
  • Understand cost of goods and retail pricing to address cost-conscious patients and prevent “walking Rx.”
  • Focus on company Key Patient Indicators.
  • Educate patients on adaptation to new prescriptions and care of lenses.
  • Use pupillometer, PD ruler and other technical aids for proper fit and measurements.
  • Ensure accurate delivery and turnaround times; notify patients of delays.
  • Understand promotions, coupons, and third-party programs available through MyEyeDr.
  • Perform daily care calls to patients who received eyewear one week prior.
  • Use lensometer to neutralize, verify, and perform final inspection of eyewear.
  • Notify and re-notify patients when eyeglasses are complete for dispensing; fit and adjust eyewear for each patient.
  • Ensure product pricing accuracy; monitor jobs waiting for pickup and inform management of delays over 30 days.
  • Clean and merchandise displays daily; place returns in proper bins.
  • Perform preliminary testing as needed and process patient payments accurately.
  • Help maintain an attractive office appearance and attend all meetings and training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About the role: As a MyEyeDr. Licensed Dispensing Optician (LDO), you will analyze prescriptions to make recommendations that provide the highest quality vision care to patients. The LDO fits, measures, and adjusts eyeglasses to exceed patients’ needs and expectations, and solves any difficulty a patient may experience regarding vision care. The LDO is responsible for providing oversight on all prescriptions throughout the office.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of related eyewear experience in a similar office environment.
  • Demonstrated success in a retail/office setting addressing a broad spectrum of customer requirements and preferences.
  • Strong comfort with optical and lens-related concerns; ability to oversee and describe multiple prescriptions daily.
  • Proven ability to establish positive patient rapport and build repeat customer trends.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet patient commitments/deadlines.
  • Proficiency with automated equipment and systems standard to the optometry industry.
