Job description

Description

Looking for more than productivity quotas?

At Lorenz Clinic, we offer something different. We're a mission-driven, relationship-centered practice where psychotherapy—not just symptom relief—remains sacred. We selectively hire full-time licensed therapists who want to work at depth, not on autopilot.

While many clinics are being reshaped by corporate agendas, productivity quotas, and one-size-fits-all care models, Lorenz has charted another course. We’re clinician-led and built on integrity, reflective practice, and enduring relationships—where clinical excellence isn’t just preserved, it’s cultivated.

We prioritize quality by selectively hiring therapists who embody clinical excellence, relational depth, and alignment with our mission. Fewer than 5% of applicants are invited to join us—ensuring you’ll work alongside colleagues who inspire, challenge, and elevate your practice. Here, you’ll have time to thrive: generous PTO, burnout recovery time, CEUs, holidays, and meaningful parental leave. You’ll find a supportive, thoughtful community and the autonomy to shape your work with intention.

Make a difference on Main Street, not Wall Street.

Help us build the future of mental healthcare—ethical, relational, and sustainable. Join us, and never give up hope for what this field can be.

About Lorenz Clinic

Lorenz Clinic is not your typical mental health clinic—we're a clinician-led, family psychology institute built around excellence in both care and training. Our mission is to heal the world one relationship at a time. We’re proud to be the first family psychology specialty clinic in Minnesota, and the first to develop organized Post-Master’s Fellowships in the state. But we’re not the biggest—and that’s by design. We’re here to be the best.

Licensed therapists who thrive here are intellectually curious, relationally skilled, and drawn to big ideas. They want to work at a clinic where systems thinking, reflective practice, and relational intervention are more than buzzwords—they’re daily tools. Our clinicians aren’t burdened by trainees—they’re invigorated by being surrounded by growth, thoughtfulness, and a sense of shared purpose.

Lorenz is a training site by design, not default. At any given time, about 40% of our clinical team is involved in supervision, teaching, or professional development. Our training programs are nationally respected and highly selective. We selectively hire clinicians who align with our mission, demonstrate clinical excellence, and bring relational maturity to their work. But training isn’t a side gig here—it’s a central source of vitality for our system. It keeps us sharp, connected, and committed to evolving the field.

We believe that in order to do good clinical work, you need a system that supports good clinical work. That’s why we’ve adopted an evidence-based Clinician Wellness Roadmap that includes autonomy, reasonable caseloads, peer connection, and meaningful alignment with our core values. Reflective Practice is part of the culture—something we protect and prioritize, not just a box to check.

Our licensed staff come from diverse backgrounds and represent a high bar of professionalism. We hire only the top tier of applicants and invest deeply in their development. The result is a clinic where you can practice at the highest level, surrounded by like-minded colleagues—whether or not you're directly involved in training.

If you’re a licensed therapist looking for a place that will challenge and support you, a place where depth and excellence are non-negotiable, Lorenz might be your next professional home.

About the Role

At Lorenz Clinic, licensed psychotherapists serve in applied, meaningful roles, providing diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, and treatment planning to a diverse clientele across the lifespan. Clinicians practice within their areas of competence and specialty, with support for developing clinical interests over time.

Our clinics are embedded in Main Street communities—places where behavioral health access is too often out of reach. We’re not a boutique practice. We’re a relational home for those committed to the social mission of psychotherapy. Over 43% of our clients use Medicaid, and our sliding fee scale goes to zero—a tangible reflection of our values. Despite the complexity of our client population, our no-show rate is under 10%, a testament to the strength of our engagement practices and the quality of therapeutic relationships.

Reflective Practice, ongoing consultation, and clinician well-being are central to our operations. We run a committee-driven Wellness Roadmap, backed by evidence and co-designed with staff input. This roadmap supports manageable caseloads, fairness, autonomy, and relational support—values our clinicians say make a real difference.

In anonymous, third-party Gallup surveys, 95% of our clinicians say they would recommend Lorenz to a colleague. But it’s not just the systems that set us apart—it’s the people. In recent feedback, clinicians shared:

  • “We have the best people… the best therapists and the best humans.” — Senior Clinician
  • “I could make a mistake.” — Practicum Student
  • “I knew I’d get through it because of the support.” — Post-Master’s Fellow
  • “I have my life back.” — New Hire
  • “Such a cohesive group.” — Clinical Manager
  • “This is my therapy home… my forever job.” — Senior Clinician
  • “Such an organized experience.” — Trainee

Clinicians participate in regular case consultation, Grand Rounds, and team meetings as part of our collaborative culture. We are a place where clinical rigor meets community impact—where therapists grow alongside others who are deeply committed to both their craft and each other.

Key Responsibilities

As a licensed clinician at Lorenz, you’ll be entrusted with delivering psychotherapy that honors both the complexity of human experience and the systemic contexts in which symptoms live.

  • Provide psychotherapy and diagnostic assessments within your clinical areas of competence
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and discharge plans
  • Engage in regular consultation, Grand Rounds, team meetings, and reflective supervision
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with clinical and ethical standards
  • Participate in a values-driven, learning-focused clinical community
  • Other duties as assigned

The most successful candidates will evidence a track record of service as an interventionist with a high degree of professional activity within the field. The position requirements include but are not limited to:

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health profession from an accredited academic program
  • Full, independent, unrestricted licensure as a mental health professional in Minnesota (LP, LMFT, LICSW, or LPCC). Pre-licensed therapists such as LGSWs or LAMFTs should instead consider Lorenz's Post-Master’s Fellowship or Postdoctoral Fellowship positions unless licensure is imminent within four months.
  • At least 2 years providing clinical supervision (preferred)
  • Formal training in child, couples, family therapy, relational / interpersonal, or contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy (preferred)

Benefits

Full-time, independently licensed clinicians enjoy a robust benefits package that includes:

  • Life insurance
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance
  • Paid time off

We don’t just offer benefits—we offer time. Time to rest, to grow, to reflect, and to stay inspired. Our burnout leave, CEU time, and flexible schedules are designed to prevent burnout before it starts. And as an active training clinic, most clinicians at Lorenz earn about 100 hours per year of board-approved continuing education just from showing up to work. The clinic hosts an annual conference, monthly grand rounds, and four hours per month of case consultation with a specialist.

While this is primarily an in-person role, most clinicians at Lorenz Clinic incorporate some hybrid work depending on licensure, program fit, and clinical needs. The hiring range for master's-level licensees is $75,000 - $106,250 per year, while the hiring range for licensed psychologists is $106,000 - $125,000 per year. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt, benefits-eligible, W2 role.

Application & Selection Process

Selection into our practice is competitive. Whereas the biggest, loudest clinics hire anyone and everyone, we tend to hire under 5% because we’re focused on quality. Cover letters are not required but do stand out, as they help us learn more about you and ensure the best fit for all-involved. Application materials may be submitted through the clinic’s job board at https://lorenzclinic.com/join-us/. Candidates are evaluated through variegated means based on a multitude of factors including but not limited to clinical competence (knowledge, skills, and attitudes), ability to perform job duties to a high degree of quality, potential to positively impact the field, and consistency with the clinic’s Core Values and mission. The ability to think systemically, developmentally, and relationally are highly prized. We evaluate candidates based not only on credentials but also on mission alignment, relational depth, and the capacity to thrive in a reflective, values-driven culture.

Lorenz Clinic is proudly committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse and inclusive workforce. We are an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
