Job summary

Glacier Fish Company is seeking a Mate to command and manage a factory trawler in Alaskan waters, operating under the Master’s direction. The role includes safe vessel operation, navigation, and supervision of crew and safety procedures aboard high-sea processing vessels.

Experience with Coast Guard licensed fishing vessels and English communication is required, with extended field trips and the ability to be away from land-based medical care for extended periods.

Qualifications

• Coast Guard Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel license required (1600 GRT on the Northern Glacier).
• Minimum 2 years of experience fishing onboard H&G vessels in Alaskan waters.
• Ability to understand instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of the factory trawler and entire vessel crew under direction of the master.
• Navigate and maneuver the vessel using charts, radar, radios, depth finders, and sonar while complying with COLREGS and Coast Guard requirements.
• Direct fishing operations at night and log daily activities in the ship's log.
• Oversee safety and environmental policies and supervise medical and safety activities on board.
• Conduct Safety Drills and Safety Orientation; maintain station bill details and safety records.
• Complete monthly Safety/Equipment checks; order navigational publications and updates.
• Serve as Fire Team Leader and coordinate Fire drills.
