Electrician

Full-Time | Licensed Electrician | Commercial & Residential Electrical Construction & Service

This Role Is Not for Everyone

If you are looking for a place where ego, shortcuts, and “this is how I’ve always done it” thinking are acceptable, Burkhead Electric is not the right fit for you.

If you are serious about doing the work the right way, growing every day, following proven processes, and becoming one of the best in the trade, keep reading. This may be the team where you can build something meaningful.

Important: This position requires an active Iowa State electrical license at the Journeyman level or higher. If you do not currently hold an Iowa Journeyman, Master, or equivalent qualifying electrical license, this is not the role to apply for.

Who Thrives at Burkhead Electric
About the Role

We’re looking for a Licensed Electrician with the skill, discipline, and maturity to work in residential and/or commercial environments while leading through consistency—not ego. This role is for someone who understands that quality work, exceptional customer experience, company standards, trade standards, the National Electrical Code, manufacturer requirements, and local jurisdiction expectations are not optional. They are the standard we operate from every single day, on every job, regardless of the size, setting, or task at hand.

At Burkhead Electric, we are building a culture of evidence over ego. We do not make decisions based on pride, habit, or personal preference. We rely on standards, results, training, accountability, and a willingness to keep learning. The right person for this role is proactive, process-driven, team-minded, and focused on helping the entire company improve—not just protecting their own comfort zone.

What You’ll Own
  • Lead electrical work in residential and/or commercial environments, from rough-in to final inspection, while maintaining Burkhead Electric standards from start to finish
  • Perform installations, upgrades, repairs, service calls, and troubleshooting with a disciplined focus on safety, quality, code compliance, and customer experience
  • Use consistent processes to diagnose issues, complete work efficiently, and create a reliable experience across every job type
  • Follow the National Electrical Code, manufacturer requirements, local jurisdiction rules, and company standards without compromise
  • Support apprentices and team members by modeling focused, professional, process-driven work habits
  • Communicate clearly with homeowners, builders, general contractors, customers, and colleagues to keep work moving with clarity and accountability
  • Look ahead, identify potential issues early, and take ownership of solutions that move the team and customer experience forward
What You Bring
  • Active Iowa State electrical license at the Journeyman level or higher is required. This includes an Iowa Journeyman, Master, or other Iowa-recognized license level that qualifies you to perform electrical work at or above journeyman status.

  • 6+ years of electrical experience in residential, commercial, service, new construction, remodel, or a combination of these environments

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and working knowledge of residential and/or commercial wiring, electrical systems, and code compliance

  • Proven ability to work independently, stay focused, and complete large tasks without needing constant oversight

  • A team-first mindset that values accountability, coaching, shared standards, and continuous improvement

  • Willingness to learn, adapt, follow documented processes, and improve based on evidence—not ego

  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Physical Requirements
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working in attics, crawl spaces, unfinished spaces, job sites, and varying weather conditions

What Sets You Apart
  • A calm, solutions-focused approach when challenges, corrections, or coaching arise on site
  • A desire to mentor apprentices, strengthen the team, and help build a culture of disciplined excellence
  • Experience across both residential and commercial electrical work, including service, construction, troubleshooting, premium products, innovative solutions, or customizable product offerings
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay based on experience and license level
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Company vehicle and tools provided
  • Ongoing training and career development opportunities
If You’re Still Reading, Here’s Why It Matters

At Burkhead Electric, we are not interested in average. We are building a team that chooses evidence over ego, standards over shortcuts, and personal growth over complacency. Our work matters because our customers trust us to provide safe, high-quality electrical solutions and an exceptional experience every time. That requires people who are disciplined, teachable, proactive, and committed to doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

If that sounds too intense, this probably is not the place for you. If you hold the required Iowa electrical license and want an environment that demands focus, discipline, ownership, and constant improvement, we would like to hear from you.
