Job summary

Morgan Construction Management seeks a Licensed Electrical Engineer in Philadelphia to lead electrical design for building projects, including new construction and renovations. Requires ABET-accredited degree and PA PE license, with at least ten years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • PA Professional Engineer license required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional electrical design experience for schools, commercial buildings, facilities, construction, and assessments.

  • Technical review and approval of design development plans and construction documents.
  • Prepare bid specifications and IFBs and provide design support during bid and construction phases.
  • Contribute to evaluation, restoration, repair design, and preservation of existing historic schools and building systems.
  • Engage with the Philadelphia L&I department and other external agencies.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure constructability of building systems.

Morgan Construction Management (MCM) provides exceptional construction project management services to our clients in various markets that comprise of government, transportation, educational and religious institutions, housing and commercial. Since 2011, MCM serves its clients in the private and public sectors. MCM manages all phases of projects from programming to implementation and from pre-construction to post construction.

Job Summary

MCM is seeking a skilled and detail-orientedLicensed Electrical Engineerwith extensive knowledge inlarge scale engineering and construction projectsto work with our client's team in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate must be a Licensed Electrical Engineer with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an ABET-accredited college or university and experience in the building and facilities construction industry. Primarily, this position will involve projects at existing buildings, new construction and associated support facilities. Typical projects include new building systems, improvements to existing building systems, interior modernizations, major renovations and new construction.

Essential responsibilities will include the following:
  • Generate and advertise RFPs for the selection of 3rd party design firms.
  • Review and approval proposals from 3rd party design firms.
  • Manage contracts and approve invoices of design firms.
  • Develop scope determination reports for Capital Improvement Projects by assessing fire alarm systems, electrical power systems, lighting, generators, and elevators for both renovation and new construction projects.
  • Technical review and approval of design development plans and construction documents.
  • Prepare bid specifications and IFBs and provide design support to the Capital Improvement Project Team during bid and construction phases.
  • Contribute to the evaluation, restoration, repair design, and preservation of existing historic schools, construction materials, and building systems.
  • Engage with the Philadelphia L&I department and other external agencies.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure constructability of building systems.
  • Work with other internal departments (Environmental, Construction,Facilities & Maintenance and Space Planning).
Additional Functions
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Support development of long-range facilities plans and capital investment strategies.
  • Assist in evaluating consultant and contractor performance.
  • Participate in special initiatives related to facilities planning, funding, and capital program governance.
  • Respond to inquiries from our client's staff, building staff, facilities and community stakeholders regarding capital projects.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional electrical design experience for schools, commercial buildings, facilities, construction, and assessments.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical and building codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 72, IBC, City of Philadelphia codes, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, and other relevant standards.
  • Experience with the building permit process in the City of Philadelphia.
  • Experience designing electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, grounding, and low-voltage systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilitiesas follows:
  • Knowledge of Revit MEP and AutoCAD for preparing and reviewing electrical construction documents and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with electrical power distribution, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, emergency power, generators, and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to develop project scopes, technical reports, cost estimates, and documentation for renovation and new construction projects.
  • Ability to generate and issue RFPs to third-party design firms and review consultant proposals, drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building renovation and construction processes, including coordination with architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and structural disciplines.
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical codes, building codes, and permit processes, including the City of Philadelphia Building Permit process.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to construction professionals, internal departments, stakeholders, and decision makers.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills to work effectively with project teams, consultants, contractors, and other departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and related project documentation tools.
