Job summary

River Park Hospital in Huntington, WV is seeking a dynamic Per-Diem/PRN Dietitian to join our behavioral health team. This role provides on-going nutrition services to patients, with opportunities to educate patients, families, and staff.

The ideal candidate will hold a WV Dietitian license, have a nutrition/dietetics degree, and at least one year of experience; hospital or psychiatric setting preferred. This position offers varied shifts and exposure to hospital-wide nutrition programs.

Qualifications

• MUST HAVE VALID LICENSE
• Graduate of accredited university in nutrition or dietetics
• Current food handlers card
• Minimum one year experience as a dietitian; hospital/psychiatric setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide on-going nutrition services to patients across the hospital.
• Deliver nutrition education or consultation to patients, families, and the treatment team.
• Provide in-services to hospital staff as requested.
• Document all clinical services provided.
• Participate in the hospital performance improvement program.

Summary of Core Job Functions

The dietician provides on-going nutrition services to patients through out the hospital. Provides nutrition education or consultation to patients, families, and the treatment team. Provides educational in-services to hospital staff as requested.

Job Specifications

1. Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience

• a. Graduate of an accredited university in nutrition or dietetics
• b. Valid West Virginia License/Registration as a Dietician.
• c. Current food handlers card
• d. Minimum one year experience as a dietician. Hospital or psychiatric setting preferred.

2. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required

• a. Good communication skills (written and oral) and good computer skills.
• b. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
• c. Must possess the ability and willingness to work professionally with other personnel, patients, family members and guests.
• d. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, emotionally upset, varying age population, and, at times, hostile people within the Hospital.
• e. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
• f. Comply with all hospital policies and procedures. Must actively support the mission, philosophy and goals of the facility.
• g. Provides nutrition evaluations and continuous care on all assigned patients and demonstrates expertise in all populations served.
• h. Provides nutrition education or consultation to patients, families, and the treatment team.
• i. Provides patient menus that to the extent possible reflect the patient’s age, religious preferences, and cultural preferences.
• j. Documents all clinical services provided.
• k. Participates in the hospital performance improvement program
• l. Works in the dietary department as an aide or cook as needed
• m. Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
