Patience, resilience, and the ability to multitask are essential qualities for the ideal candidate, as the job requires handling intense calls while maintaining composure and managing multiple tasks and computer processes simultaneously. A background in psychology, social work, counseling, or other related behavioral healthcare fields is required, and experience in crisis support or similar roles is preferred.
Ethical standards and discretion are crucial to our ideal candidate. This role also requires maintaining confidentiality and a HIPAA-compliant, secure workspace with a locking door to ensure compliance and respect the privacy of callers. They understand that having a stable, wired internet connection that meets Protocall’s requirements is necessary to ensure the safety of our callers.
Additionally, the candidate must be flexible with their availability, as a crisis call center operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and our work requires staff who are willing to regularly work holidays and weekends. The ideal candidate understands that they are required to attend an intensive virtual eight-week training program. This program is designed to refine the skills they already possess and provide them with any missing skills needed to better align with the role of a telephonic first responder. This training program consists of two 4-week phases. The first phase runs Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM PST. The schedule for the second phase will be determined after coordinating with the Protocall Services Scheduling Department to establish the candidate's long-term schedule that meets the needs of the organization. They understand their continued employment is contingent upon completion of this training program.
