Job summary

North Star Fishing Company is seeking an experienced Assistant Engineer to manage the 12-hour watch aboard our vessels in the Bering Sea region, ensuring safe operation of engine room systems and coordination with department heads. Required include a U.S.

Coast Guard Assistant Engineer license, at least 1 year of experience, ability to lift 50 lbs, and readiness to work 12 hours daily, 7 days a week. Crew share and travel are part of compensation, with a daily guarantee and comprehensive

Qualifications

Must hold an appropriate U.S. Coast Guard Assistant Engineer license for an uninspected fishing vessel (3000HP on the Unimak).
1 year experience as an Assistant Engineer preferred or a combination of experience and education in lieu of experience.
Work 12 hrs/day for 7 days/week in all weather conditions.
Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
Ability to understand instructions and safety rules in English.

Responsibilities

Manage 12-hour watch and coordinate the engineering staff in vessel systems operation.
Coordinate with vessel department heads to ensure safe, efficient operation at sea and in port.
Identify and communicate issues beyond scope of responsibility up the chain of command.
Enforce clear, respectful communication among engineering staff and crew.
Oversee power generation, distribution, and propulsion system operation and emergency procedures.
Maintain regulatory documentation (EPA logs, USCG oil record, etc.).
Ensure maintenance per scheduled hours and manufacturer guidelines.
