Job summary

Hornblower Group is seeking an experienced Whale Watch Captain for the Boston Harbor City Cruises MBTA operation in Hingham, MA. The Captain will oversee safe vessel operation, crew leadership, and regulatory compliance, ensuring accurate passenger counts and proper maintenance routines.

The role requires a minimum 100-TON Master Inland or higher, TWIC, and First Aid/CPR, with strong safety, teamwork, and customer-service orientation. Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays is expected.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 100-TON Master Inland or above License.
  • TWIC, First Aid/CPR.
  • Detail Oriented / situational awareness.
  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork.
  • Strong customer service, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, detailed oriented and meet deadlines.
  • Listen effectively, assess the situation, determine relevant issues, and suggest solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard manager and company representative.
  • Ensure safe and efficient vessel operation and passenger safety.
  • Maintain appropriate manning per COI and accurate passenger counts.
  • Train crew and enforce USCG and company policies; evaluate crew performance.
  • Report incidents using required forms and maintain logs.
  • Ensure vessel appearance and cleanliness; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Document maintenance activities in Wheel-House software and follow security drills.
