Job summary

Rutherford County Library System in Murfreesboro, TN, seeks a Technical Services Manager to lead the selection of library materials across formats and age groups, ensure accurate cataloging, and coordinate communications with departments.

You will supervise the Technical Services team, develop collection strategies, manage vendor relations, contribute to budgeting, and support ongoing weeding and catalog maintenance to keep resources current.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• At least 3 years of recent management-level public library experience.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to analyze data and write reports.
• Experience coordinating multiple projects and staff procedures.
• Familiarity with vendor databases and selection processes.

Responsibilities

• Manages all functions of the Technical Services Department.
• Develops collections per collection development policy to meet community needs and laws.
• Identifies materials for purchase; negotiates vendors; orders materials.
• Creates selection lists and reports; analyzes data to guide collection improvements.
• Coordinates weeding; trains staff; evaluates donations.
• Assists in developing operating budget and monitors expenditures.
• Participates in meetings with other supervisors to ensure smooth operation.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
