Job summary

Alameda County is looking for a Library Manager responsible for the development and coordination of library service programs. This role includes advising staff, project management, and creating service improvement plans.

Unit: ACMEA - General Mgmt (R15)
$58.46-$71.10 Hourly / $4,676.80-$5,688.00 BiWeekly /

Under the general direction, assumes staff advisory responsibility for the development and coordination of library service programs. Also performs related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE : The following are typical duties performed by the employees in this classification. Employees may not necessarily perform all duties listed, however, they may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.

  • Creates and recommends plans and programs for the improvement of services in the assigned area.
  • Advises library personnel on services in an assigned area. This includes, but is not limited to, reference, circulation, collections, scheduling, training, programming, marketing, online tools, and other system-wide public services.
  • Participates in the hiring process for personnel assigned to work in the assigned area. Consults with and advises supervisors on performance evaluations of such staff.
  • Plans and coordinates system-wide events.
  • Coordinates with Library Managers on the development and maintenance of relationships with external groups providing services in the assigned area.
  • Manages projects and software used in the assigned area.
  • Coordinates with library management to identify, schedule, and assign training to staff.
  • Reviews and prepares evaluative reports on library services and programs and provides recommendations for library management.
  • Works with the Technical Services staff to ensure that collections of library materials support the assigned service area.
  • Chairs a system-wide committee of staff whose work focuses on the assigned service area. Coordinates annual meeting schedules, agendas, and posting of minutes. Communicates recommendations from the committee.
  • Submits budget requests to meet public and/or support services objectives and manages budgeted expenditures, exercising fiscal responsibility and responding to community needs. Identifies opportunities for grant funding and prepares grant applications as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Possession of a master's degree in library science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

EITHER I Experience : The equivalent of one (1) year full-time experience as a Library Assistant Manager in the County of Alameda classified service.

OR II Experience : The equivalent of one (1) year full-time experience as a Librarian III in the County of Alameda classified service.

OR III Experience : The equivalent of eighteen (18) months’ full-time experience as a Librarian II in the County of Alameda classified service.

OR IV Experience : The equivalent of three (3) years’ full-time professional level library experience.

Substitution : The possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time professional level experience managing projects may be substituted for the master’s degree.

Special Requirements : Employees in this classification may be assigned to work schedules including weekend and/or evening shifts.

NOTE : The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
