Job summary

The City of Lewiston's Lewiston City Library is seeking a Library Page to assist with shelving, maintaining order of the collection, and supporting events and public spaces. You will help with circulation, processing new materials and supporting programs for children, teens and adults.

You will assist with opening/closing duties, event setup and cleanup, and inventory projects while delivering friendly patron service. This entry-level role emphasizes teamwork and a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 14 years old.
  • Strong alphabetizing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and basic office equipment knowledge.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work outdoors or in public spaces as needed.
  • Evening and weekend shifts may be required.

Job description

Our mission is provide the people of Lewiston with free and open access to knowledge, ideas and information and to support them in their pursuit of learning. We do that through dynamic programs and presentations, taking materials and programs out into the community, curating a broad selection of reading material and media, and offering a variety of meeting, making and learning spaces.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of a Lead Assistant, Technician or other member of the administrative team, the Library Page shelves library materials, maintains overall organization and cleanliness of the library and/or outreach vehicle and equipment, assists in opening or closing duties, aids in circulation of materials, aids in physical processing of new library materials, and helps prepare or clean up after library events.

Essential Functions:
  • Shelving books and media and maintaining the order and appearance of the collection and public space.
  • Opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Preparing for and assisting children's, teen, or adult library programs and events.
  • Event set up and clean up.
  • Inventory projects.
  • Item check-in and cleaning.
  • Physical processing of new library materials.
  • Will assist in other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must be at least 14 years of age.

Knowledge & Abilities:

Persons must have strong alphabetizing skills, attention to detail, be able to maintain confidentiality, strong interpersonal communication skills, general knowledge of office equipment and technology and the ability to follow directions. While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to lift and carry up to 35 lbs and rarely lift or carry up to 40 lbs. The employee may be asked to push or pull carts of 50+ lbs. Evening and weekend shifts may be required.

Working Conditions:

Work setting is professional, team oriented, having both routine and variable tasks. Work pace and pressure is variable, but frequently fast-paced and high pressure. Primary functions require the following: ability to work in an office and operate office equipment and technology; ability to work outside or offsite in public areas with fluctuating temperatures; ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to bend and twist, sit, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and crawl; ability to lift 35-40 lbs.; ability to carry 30 lbs.; ability to reach in all directions; and, and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and weather.
