Job summary

Summary

Performs entry-level clerical and public contact tasks related to the circulation of all material in the library collection and other public services offered by the Library.

Examples of duties
  • Shelves returned library material in the correct location using the Dewey Decimal System or other alphabetical or numeric based organizational systems.
  • Assist library patrons seeking assistance on routine matters such as location of materials and basic computer operation issues while performing shelving duties.
  • Assist public when assigned to the circulation desk by answering phone and responding to routine inquiries. Receives incoming library materials from public and checks library materials out to eligible library patrons.
  • Monitors library collection to maintain in a neat and orderly condition. Shifts library materials to insure that certain sections of the collection storage systems do not get overloaded and/or under utilized.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.

Qualifications

This position is subject to the City of Hobbs’ Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent or currently enrolled in high school.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to learn Dewey Decimal System and other alphabetic and/or numeric library material classification systems and place library materials in the proper place pursuant to these systems.
  • Ability to interact with the public on routine inquiries in a courteous manner in accordance with established Library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff and the general public.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the guidance and direction of the Assistant Library Director and Library Director.
