Library Media Assistant

JOB ANALYSIS


This position includes assisting the professional library staff, faculty and staff with circulation, audiovisual and computer services, student supervision, and the processing of books and materials and to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides clerical support and assists in generating reports and correspondence.
  • Orders, receives, and processes media materials approved for purchase or rental.
  • Maintains necessary files.
  • Operates the circulation desk and keeps complete circulation files and records, including overdues.
  • Basic repairing of damaged materials.
  • Monitors attendance in the library.
  • Prepares materials and equipment for reserve.
  • Prepares periodicals for shelving and maintains collection.
  • Assists in inventory of media materials and the preparation of lists of missing materials and materials to be discarded.
  • Oversees the general neatness and appearance of the library media center.
  • Assists students in the use of the library media center and its materials.
  • Assists with student supervision and management.
  • Assists in promotion of the library program and resources.
  • Provides input and information to Library Media Generalists for program and collection development Assists in preparing and maintaining displays, which reinforce important parts of the curriculum.
  • Process rentals and mailings.
  • Operates equipment on request, either in the library media center or elsewhere in the school.
    • Assists with training and supervision of student assistants, volunteers, and/or substitutes.
  • Knowledge of lockdown procedures, fire drills, emergency backpacks to insure a safe school environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from High School, 2 years of College or Technical School, or a combination of education and experience, which provides the background to meet the requirements of this position, as described herein may be considered in lieu of the minimum education and experience requirements stated above.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

194 days per year. Refer to the contract between the Londonderry School Board and the Support Staff Union for additional information.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel and Union Agreement.

Facilities Profile: Londonderry High School is located on a 135-acre site on Mammoth Road in thecenter of town. The main building is 232,250 sq. ft. and houses approximately 105 classrooms, cafeteria,and library media center. The two-story 52,000 sq. ft. gymnasium, opened in January 2003, sports a17,000 sq. ft. wooden court.History: The high school building was built in 1972 as a junior high school. Additions were added in 1975and 1978, and the building opened as a Junior/Senior High School in September 1978. The current 9-12grade configuration was adopted in 1982. Placement is determined by the IEP team to ensureprogramming in the least restrictive environment.School Counseling: The comprehensive school counseling program includes a Director of SchoolCounseling, six school counselors, and a School to Community Counselor.
