Job summary

Fairfax County Public Library is seeking a part-time Information Services Assistant to provide reference services, assist with collections, and lead outreach activities for patrons of all ages. The role involves helping customers locate information, teaching use of resources, and supporting front-line service at the library desk.

Ideal candidates will have strong customer service skills, familiarity with library operations, and the ability to work day/evening/weekend shifts.

Qualifications

Two years of library, bookstore, educational or research experience in addition to a four-year college degree.
Proven customer service skills and ability to assist with information needs.
Ability to use print and online resources to guide patrons.

Responsibilities

Answer informational and reference questions from customers using print and electronic resources.
Assist and instruct customers in the use of print and online materials and technology.
Advise and assist customers in selecting books, periodicals, media and other materials.
Plan and provide programs and outreach to customers of all ages.
Maintain collection by weeding and merchandising library materials.
Troubleshoot library computers and report unresolved problems.
