Job summary

The University of Chicago Library is seeking an Entrance Desk Attendant to greet patrons, explain library policies, and manage access for UChicago IDs and guests. You will coordinate with staff, support visitors, and help maintain a secure and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring entry systems, verifying IDs, guiding visitors, and reporting issues to the appropriate offices. Strong customer service and discretion are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous customer service experience required.
• One year of general office or clerical experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a college or university preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to navigate web-based systems; ability to learn a range of position-related software applications.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes and assists patrons with consistent application of Library policies.
• Monitors entry systems for valid access for UChicago ID holders.
• Verifies government-issued photo ID and issues visitor credentials.
• Directs visitors to appropriate offices and resources as needed.
• Maintains building security and cooperates with Allied Universal staff and UCPD.
