Description

The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Lakeshore Branch in Moreno Valley. This position supports the LS&S mission, vision, and values through strong leadership, exceptional customer service, and a commitment to meeting the needs of the local community.

The Branch Manager leads and supports a team of library professionals dedicated to creating a welcoming, engaging, and thriving library environment. This position is responsible for ensuring branch operations, programs, services, staffing, and procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently.

The Branch Manager also plays an important role in building and maintaining positive relationships with local community organizations, partners, and stakeholders to support the Lakeshore Branch and the Moreno Valley community it serves.

Hourly Rate: $31.00

Work Location: Lakeshore Branch – Moreno Valley, CA
Work Arrangement: This is a fully on-site position. There is no opportunity for remote or hybrid work.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that personal conduct and the conduct of staff are consistent with organizational standards and values.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, library leadership, community organizations, and other partners.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and in a timely manner through verbal and written communication.
  • Identify opportunities to improve branch operations, programs, services, and the overall patron experience.
  • Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of patrons, staff, community partners, and other stakeholders within organizational guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to establish goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that support effective library operations.
  • Positively influence and support staff in achieving branch and organizational goals.
  • Assess situations, priorities, urgency and risks and make timely and appropriate decisions.
  • Set priorities, develop work schedules, monitor progress toward goals, and maintain appropriate records and information.
  • Develop and implement action plans that support branch and organizational goals and evaluate results.
  • Identify and address operational concerns by gathering relevant information, considering possible solutions, and making appropriate recommendations or decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups and organizations that support the Lakeshore Branch and the Moreno Valley community.
  • Understand and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library, while supporting client discretion regarding materials available at the library.
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and the custodianship of patron records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • This position requires regular, on-site presence at the Lakeshore Branch and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and maintain focus while working on a computer, reviewing documents, or completing detailed administrative work.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the library as needed to oversee branch operations and assist staff and patrons.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, and/or pull items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds, including books, files, supplies, and other library materials.
  • Work is primarily performed in a public library environment with regular interaction with patrons, staff, community partners, and visitors.
  • Regular use of computers, office equipment, and other library-related technology is required.
  • May be required to work evenings and/or weekends based on branch operational needs.
