Job summary

Allendale-Hampton-Jasper Regional Library is seeking a Library Assistant to help patrons find and borrow materials, check items in/out, and manage holds. The role includes shelving, inventory, clerical tasks, and basic tech support for public computers and printers.

The position requires a high school diploma, strong communication skills, and availability for evenings and weekends. Experience in libraries or customer service is a plus, with bilingual English/Spanish considered advantageous.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred; some college coursework preferred.
• Experience in a library, customer service, or clerical role is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and internet navigation.
• Ability to learn library software and assist patrons with digital resources.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish or another language commonly spoken in the community is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with locating and borrowing library materials.
• Check materials in and out and manage holds.
• Shelve materials, shelf read, and conduct inventory.
• Provide general reference and reader’s advisory services.
• Assist with programming, workshops, and events.
• Troubleshoot basic technology for public computers and printers.
• Process fines, fees, and book sales transactions as needed.
• Represent AHJ Regional Library System at community events.
• Maintain patron records and assist with displays and promotions.
