Job summary

City of San Diego Library Department seeks a Library Assistant III to perform paraprofessional library and clerical work in a branch or Central Library section. You will assist patrons, explain policies, locate materials, answer reference questions, and support children's services.

You may lead Library Assistant I/II and volunteers and help with public programs. The role requires meeting one of several education options, and may involve evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Complete a Community College Certificate in Library Technology.
• Associate degree or 60 semester/90 quarter units.
• Two years full-time paraprofessional library experience with patron assistance and reference questions.

Responsibilities

• Assist and instruct patrons in using library resources and facilities.
• Explain library policies and rules; locate materials and answer routine reference questions.
• Provide children's services and conduct patron training classes; assist in operations and programs.
• Lead the work of Library Assistant I/II positions and volunteers; support public programs and promotions.
