Job summary

City of San Diego is hiring Library Assistant II to perform journey-level library clerical duties, assist patrons with the catalog, devices, and procedures, and help maintain smooth library operations. The role may involve evenings and weekends and requires lifting up to 50 pounds.

The position may be filled across branches within the Library Department. Applicants must meet one of the education/experience options, including a Library Technology certificate, college units, or clerical/customer

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a Community College Certificate in Library Technology.
• Completion of a minimum of 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
• One year of full-time clerical and/or customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Answer routine questions regarding the collections, facilities, policies, and procedures.
• Register new library cards and resolve account issues.
• Request materials from other libraries; assist patrons with electronic technologies and the automated catalog.
• Assist patrons with the public computers, photocopier, and self-checkout equipment.
• Process mail and receive daily cash register reports.
