The Yuma County Library District is seeking a bilingual Spanish Outreach Coordinator to coordinate Spanish language library services for the public and to supervise on-site staff. The role includes outreach, training, reporting, and program development; duties may shift to other branches as needed.

Responsibilities include generating statistics, selecting Spanish language materials, marketing outreach with the Community Relations Manager, and delivering presentations to Spanish-speaking

Qualifications

  • Fluent in Spanish and English, including speaking, reading and writing.
  • Two years of experience in library services or related field.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain one, background check required.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Spanish language library services for the public.
  • Lead staff, assign schedules, and oversee library functions in supervisor’s absence.
  • Assist with training, orientation, and program statistics reporting.
  • Review, select, and order Spanish language materials; conduct outreach.
  • Deliver presentations and provide user assistance in Spanish; respond to inquiries.
  • Maintain records, registers, and reports; assist with event registrations and outreach activities.

Job description

This position is advertised from the minimum to the midpoint hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

NATURE OF WORK

Under general supervision, performs library work of moderate difficulty in the coordination of Spanish language library services for the public; acts as lead worker for assigned library staff; this position has department specific responsibility; hours may vary (Monday – Saturday) depending on the needs of the Library District.

(Illustrative Only)Gives guidance and direction to staff and oversees library functions in the absence of the on-site supervisor; assists with training and orientation of new Spanish Outreach employees; collects, tracks, and generates reports for the Spanish Outreach program statistics; assists with the reviewing, selection, and ordering of Spanish language materials; works with Community Relations Manager to ensure marketing and outreach to the community; provides library services, conducts outreach, delivers presentations, assists patrons, explains library policies and resources, and communicates effectively with Spanish-speaking individuals and community organizations; responsible for report writing and program statistics; may check materials in and out, handle fees and fines, issue library cards, and shelve books and materials; plans and coordinates various activities for outreach throughout the year; ensures assigned staff are engaging with the community; determines work schedules for outreach events; ensures that registrations for events are filed and submitted in a timely manner; generates reports; assists patrons with their needs; responds to complaints; organizes and conducts library programs and activities; may be assigned to work in other library branches and divisions; maintains automated and manual files; assists in preparation of schedules, reports and correspondence; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

Associates Degree in Library Science, Spanish Communications, Education or related field, and two years’ experience working in library services, community outreach, public programming, education, or a closely related field.; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; must be fluent in Spanish and English, including the ability to speak, read, and write Spanish at a level sufficient to independently provide library services and conduct outreach to Spanish-speaking communities; must possess or have the ability to obtain a fingerprint Clearance Card; requires successful completion of a background check; must possess and maintain valid Arizona driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications: Library Technical Assistant (LTA) Certificate

Knowledge of: Yuma County and Department policies and procedures and functions; techniques of library operations; the Dewey Decimal System; children’s services as practiced in public libraries; books and authors; principles and practices of supervision.

Skill in: Assigning and reviewing work performance of others; using office machines, and automated systems; communicating effectively in both English and Spanish, verbally and in writing, with patrons, coworkers, community organizations, and other stakeholders; providing effective customer-oriented service; handling irate patrons and tense situations; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Spanish-speaking patrons and community partners; following written instructions; developing and delivering engaging Spanish-language programs, presentations, workshops, and outreach activities.

Ability to: Effectively respond to phone calls, emails and complaints in a timely manner; plan, prioritizes, manages and responds to multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; read, write, research, synthesizes data and detailed reports; use modern office equipment and computers; in assigning and leading the work of others; lift up to 30 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment and may have risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
