The Senior Writer and Editor serves as managing editor for Bates Magazine, and provides leadership and expertise in strategic storytelling. This highly skilled writer and editor will have deep experience and will collaborate with the Senior Communications and Editorial Director to develop a fresh tone for BCM’s writing in all formats and styles (print and digital, persuasive and journalistic). The Senior Writer and Editor, in collaboration with the Senior Communications Director, will ensure that all written content aligns with institutional priorities while maintaining the highest editorial standards and cultivating a commitment to creativity and innovation.
The copywriter creates, develops, plans, writes, and edits persuasive communications that embody the brand, spirit and personality of Bates College. A key member of the editorial team within Bates Communications and Marketing (BCM), the copywriter will collaborate closely with the digital marketing team and key campus partners to deliver creative, compelling, and — most important — effective messaging.The copywriter works both independently and collaboratively with internal teams and colleagues in advancement, admission, athletics and academic affairs to imagine new concepts and copy in support of strategic initiatives that further institutional goals.
Provides administrative support and front office coverage for all functions required of Facility Services. Interacts and coordinates with students, staff and faculty. Works as an integral team member with other office personnel, and is cross-trained in their duties.
This position has primary responsibility for managing the Library’s course reserves collection. Reporting to the Head of Access Services, this individual will coordinate the organization, maintenance, and processing of all required texts and films in this distinctively comprehensive and inclusive service at Bates College.

The Grounds and Maintenance Lead – Horticulture Focus assists the manager in directing employees and all activities in order to meet department operational goals. The expectation is that the Grounds Lead will assign tasks and direct small groups of staff in the performance of those duties. This person will act as a liaison with internal and/or external contacts related to operational issues. They are also expected to perform the functions of a regular Grounds and Maintenance Worker as needed.This position is considered “Essential Personnel” in the event that:An emergency occurs on the Bates Campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates.Inclement weather forces the closing of campus.Other emergency events deemed appropriate.Essential Personnel are required to report to or remain at work if instructed to do so if contacted directly by the supervisor (or his/her designee), the President or a member of the President’s Staff (Sr. Leadership Team.)
The Assistant in Instruction in Biology will specialize in molecular biology, organismal biology, or ecology. The candidate will be involved in piloting experiments or learning activities for course-associated labs. This position will also assist with preparing laboratory activities in various BIO 195 (CURE) and Short Term courses in addition to occasional upper-level courses when applicable.

This is a full-time, year-round position in which apprentices are paid employees of Bates College. Opportunities to work part-time during the school year and full time upon graduation may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Those who successfully complete their apprenticeship will continue their employment at Bates College as an experienced electrician and will have completed the requirements set by the applicable state board and may sit for the State Journeyman test.
The Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for aiding the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach in the planning and direction of the varsity swim programs. They will oversee the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, help plan and run team practices and competitions, help direct the program’s social media accounts, and assist with strength, conditioning, performance and wellness programming for the student-athletes.They will create and assess team training programs, and assist with fiscal program management for Bates College’s NCAA Division III intercollegiate men’s and women’s swimming and diving program. Aquatics and pool operations duties include managing the programming for and running of the pool. This is a professional coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NCAA, the NESCAC Conference and Bates College. This position will assist with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and management of the College’s aquatic facility and programs and will oversee the hiring, training, management and supervision of student employees.

This position supports the development of student-athletes through mentorship, guidance, leadership opportunities, community building, and a commitment to social justice. The Assistant Coach focuses primarily in the areas of planning and directing recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student-athletes, along with fiscal management of the program. This is a professional assistant coaching position, and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NESCAC Conference, and the College. The Assistant Coach will have significant night and weekend commitments. This position reports to the Head Coach.This is a full time, full year position that averages 40 hours per week. Exact schedule will vary based on the time of year. "In" season is from September - March.

The Assistant Director of Operations is an essential member of the Student Center of Belonging and Community (SCBC), which is charged with creating a holistic, student-centered environment that cultivates community and belonging, provides resources for students’ personal and academic success, and connects students to opportunities across campus.The Assistant Director of Operations will work closely with the Associate Dean/Director, serving as an Ambassador for the SCBC. This role is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the budget for overall SCBC programming that promotes an inclusive environment for students. The Assistant Director ofOperations will also recruit, hire, supervise, and support the development of student employees, referred to as Community Navigators; develop and nurture cross-campus collaborations; and design, implement, and evaluate annual programs/traditions and all other programs as appropriate and assigned by the Associate Dean/Director. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner position within Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will entail meeting with students who are seeking a psychiatric evaluation, prescribing psychiatric medication and follow-up, along with crisis intervention as needed.
