SUNY New Paltz is seeking a Library Assistant 1 for Sojourner Truth Library. The role focuses on supervising the Circulation Desk, maintaining library hours on Saturdays and weekday mornings during the academic year, and supporting patrons with the catalog and research services.

The position involves training student staff, enforcing policies, and coordinating shelving and inventory projects. Eligible candidates include those under NY HELPS and with relevant clerical or library experience.

Qualifications

• Must meet NY HELPS minimum qualifications.
• Promotion Qualifications: one year of permanent service in clerical/secretarial/title at Grade 6 or higher.
• Non-Competitive Qualifications: high school diploma and one year library clerical experience OR 30 credits in library/IS.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Circulation Desk and open/close building on Saturdays.
• Supervise and train student employees in closing procedures.
• Provide customer service and enforce library policies.
• Support research services and assist patrons with the catalog.
• Monitor and shift inventory; plan shelf readings and inventory projects.
• Report to the Circulation Manager and maintain duties during August–May.
