Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Librarian Supervisor for the Summerglen Library. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, managing daily operations, and guiding staff to serve diverse community needs.

The ideal candidate is customer-focused, experienced in library operations, and able to work evenings and weekends across multiple locations. Master’s degree in library science and at least three years of professional library experience are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library and information sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, Sociology, Human Relations or closely related field
• Three (3) years of professional library experience
• Spanish language ability preferred

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct day-to-day operations and staff of a branch library to ensure excellent public service
• Provide outstanding customer service and help customers locate materials and services
• Interpret policy and procedures and resolve daily operational and customer issues
• Ensure library location is welcoming; manage collection promotion, maintenance, and weeding
• Supervise staff, including planning, assigning work, performance management, scheduling, and training
• Plan and evaluate local outreach programs with staff
• Assess library standards and services at location
• Assist customers with basic computer needs and emerging technologies

Pay Range: $34.45 - $44.79/hr. |$71,661 - $93,159 annual compensation

A Librarian Supervisor position is available at the Fort Worth Public Library at the Summerglen Library. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, enthusiastic about bringing library services to people in the community, and comfortable working with diverse populations including people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in library and information sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, Sociology, Human Relations or a closely related field
• Three (3) years of professional library experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of management principles and practices including goal setting, budget development/implementation, and staff development and motivation
• Knowledge of modern professional library principles, practices, and procedures
• Skill in using exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills that build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external customers
• Skill in hiring, motivating, developing, and directing staff in a collaborative team environment
• Ability to work evenings and weekends
• Ability to work at/travel to various locations
• Ability to communicate with customers in Spanish

The Librarian Supervisor’s job responsibilities include:

• Planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations and staff of a branch library to ensure efficient and effective public service
• Providing excellent customer service, including answering questions and helping customers locate materials and services of interest
• Interpreting policy and procedures and resolving daily operational and customer issues
• Ensuring that the location is well-ordered, appealing, and inviting; Manages the location’s overall collection, including promotion, maintenance, and weeding
• Supervising staff, including planning and assigning work, performance management, scheduling, addressing complaints and resolving problems; training staff on basic job functions
• Planning, implementing, and evaluating local outreach programs and services in conjunction with staff
• Evaluates/assesses Library standards and services at location
• Assisting customers with basic computer needs and emerging technologies

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects
