Job summary

City of Redwood City is hiring a full-time Librarian I/II to serve children, families and teens at the Redwood Shores and Schaberg branches. The role requires onsite work and availability for days, evenings and weekends.

The ideal candidate holds a Master of Library Science and has experience in youth/library programs, with Mandarin being a plus. Training, growth opportunities and a supportive library team are offered.

Qualifications

• MLS degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
• Librarian I: no experience required; Librarian II: two years of professional library work.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist library customers; demonstrate catalog use and refer to other agencies as needed.
• Provide high-level customer service following the library's Active Customer Service Model.
• Develop, implement and evaluate youth, teen, and adult programs; suggest improvements.
• Publicize programs and prepare exhibits; guide customers to materials for reading interests.
• Organize and maintain library materials; catalog and classify materials.
• Maintain and update library databases; respond to information service questions.
• Participate in meetings, training, and outreach to communities and schools.
