Job summary

Alamance County Government seeks a Library Technology Librarian to promote digital literacy and support library patrons across branches. The role requires presenting programs, training staff, and coordinating tech resources for Discovery Lab, Chromebooks, hotspots, and more.

Strong communication and customer service are essential. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with some weekends/evenings and travel to multiple Alamance County branches.

Qualifications

  • MLIS or Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of professional library experience.
  • Experience with library computer applications and automated systems such as ILS, OverDrive/Hoopla, and related tech.
  • Flexibility in scheduling including evenings and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and teaches library staff and community members about digital resources and technology.
  • Develops training documentation and policies for library technology and equipment.
  • Plans and presents digital literacy workshops in person, online, and in the community.
  • Provides one-on-one help for patrons and coordinates with mobile services and partner orgs.
  • Acts as lead technology librarian and coordinates with branch tech teams.
  • Work at branch desks and on mobile vehicles per schedule and ACPL policies.

Job Purpose

Within this role the candidate will promote ACPL’s values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference and reading needs of library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Community Engagement Librarian. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, benefitted position. While most hours are Monday – Friday, frequent monthly weekend or evening hours are required. This position will be scheduled to work at other library branches throughout Alamance County on a regular basis.

The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to provide customer-focused service, a curious nature, and share an interest in learning, teaching, and trying new things. They must possess strong leadership qualities, excellent computer and communication skills, and a strong work ethic. This position will require presenting programs outside the library frequently, including at outdoor stops with our mobile vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Learns and teaches library staff and community members about digital resources and technology equipment.
  • Develops training documentation, procedures, and policies for library technology and equipment, including Discovery Lab components, Chromebooks, hotspots, and any new emerging technologies added to our services/resources.
  • Plans and presents digital literacy and technology-related workshops both in-person, online, and pre-recorded at the library branches and in the community, alone or in coordination with partners.
  • Provides one-on-one help for patrons in conjunction with our mobile vehicles and Home Delivery services, and at partner organizations.
  • Acts as the lead technology librarian and coordinates with coworkers in charge of technology at each branch.
  • Working at the branch’s public service desks and on the mobile vehicles as scheduled, and following established ACPL circulation policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • MLIS or Bachelor’s degree with 3 years or more years of increasingly responsible professional library experience in a public library.
  • Experience with computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, databases, ILS systems, Overdrive, Hoopla, etc.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with diverse populations in community-facing roles strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff in a busy environment
Health Insurance

Full-time employees are eligible for medical/health (Cigna Insurance) benefits upon the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment.

Alamance County Government currently offers three plans of medical/pharmacy benefit options including 2 Standard PPO plans and a High-Deductible Health Plan with HSA.

Dental Benefit

Alamance County offers one dental insurance (Delta Dental) plan for FT employees at no cost. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of FT employment.

Vision Insurance

A voluntary vision program (Superior Vision) is available to FT employees. The current PPO style plan allows employees to seek treatment and hardware from any vision care provider of their choice. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of FT employment. Coverage must be elected within your first 30 days of FT employment or upon a qualifying event.

Voluntary Benefits:

Alamance County Government provides a variety of voluntary health related benefits (Voya) to allow employees to purchase protection from what life may bring. A sampling of voluntary benefits includes Flexible Spending Accounts with dependent care opportunities, Health Saving Account with an employer contribution, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Cancer Protection Plan, Group Critical Care Insurance and more.

Life Insurance

Basic term life insurance is the amount of one times the annual salary (no greater than $70,000) is provided for all FT employees. Additional coverage is available for purchase through payroll deductions for employee and eligible dependents.

Retirement Benefits

Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed.

Vacation Time

Annual Leave is accrued based on years of service. Employees can accrue from 10-25 days per year.

Sick Time

All County full time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

County Observed Holidays

Alamance County will observe the State of North Carolina Holiday Schedule.

Alamance County Employee Health Center:

Available to employees and spouses who are covered under the Alamance County Insurance Plan and their covered dependents, 18 years of age and older. Retired employees under age 65 are also eligible to use the health center. Depending on insurance coverage elected, care at the clinic ranges from free to a fair market value cost.

In support of this philosophy an Employee Fitness Center is available for all County employees to use at their convenience during non-work hours and is open 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday-Sunday. This center includes weight training equipment, cardio equipment, a small aerobics room along with restrooms, changing room and lockers.

The hiring salary range for this position will be based on experience and will range from $51,919 to $53,000.
