Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Librarian I-Academic Liaison for the University Library. The role involves teaching library orientations and coordinating instruction for students and faculty, designing presentations, and assisting patrons with information needs.

You will join a diverse team, provide campus collaborations, cover during absences, manage reserves, and participate in emergency management activities. MLS and 2+ years of experience required; strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school.
  • 2 years of library-related experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to assist diverse patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with teaching library orientations and research skills to students and public library patrons.
  • Design and prepare presentations, handouts and content for library orientations, Research Skills and coordinated library instruction.
  • Interacts with patrons to assist them in selecting materials or meeting informational needs.
  • Responsible for library instruction in the absence of the Academic Liaison and for transfers and materials on reserve.
  • Participates in emergency management activities during local disasters as directed by county managers.

Librarian I-Academic Liaison-University Library

  • Assists with teaching Library orientations and Research Skills to students and public library patrons.
  • Assists with teaching coordinated library instruction on campus, as requested by individual instructors and faculty.
  • Designs and prepares presentations, handouts and content for Library orientations, Research Skills and coordinated library instruction.
  • Interacts with the library patrons to assist them in selecting materials or meeting informational needs.
  • Responsible for the library instruction in the absence of the Academic Liaison.
  • Responsible of transfers and materials placed on reserve by students, instructors and faculty in the absence of the Academic Liaison.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school; knowledge of current library practices and technologies.
  • 2 years of job related experience.
  • Computer skills, good verbal and written communication, organizational skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to assist patrons of varying educational levels; and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, students, faculty, staff and elected officials. Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

SALARY: 25.71 - 32.14/ Hourly
