Job summary

Infolink The Eastern New Jersey Regional Library Cooperative Inc is seeking an entry level cataloging librarian to support NJ State Library collections. You will grow skills in metadata, indexing, and discovery for researchers across state government, universities, public libraries, and the public.

You will handle special collections, develop metadata, and coordinate with section heads on digital projects and collection budgets. Tech-savvy applicants with an interest in digital tools will thrive.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program or acceptable NJ program.
• Eligibility for New Jersey Professional Librarian certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide original and complex copy cataloging using OCLC, MarcEdit, RDA, LCSH and LCC.
• Create authority records at the national level.
• Manage quality control for bibliographic metadata with Horizon and other tools.
• Participate in digital projects to promote unique library collections.
• Take responsibility for budgets of assigned collections.
• Prepare reports for users and administrators.

Job description

This entry level, union represented position provides lots of opportunity to grow and develop your cataloging, metadata and indexing skills to support collection discovery for researchers using the New Jersey State Library collections. Researchers include all three branches of state government; students, staff and mentors of Thomas Edison State University; New Jersey public libraries; and the general public. You will be assigned special collections for which you will be the primary cataloger. You will develop your metadata skills to support growing digital collections. You’ll be assigned special projects related to various collections, requiring established procedures and coordination with section heads. You may be assigned subject specific collections in which you identify and order print and eBook titles. You should be tech savvy and thrive with the use of digital tools.

• Manage quality control for bibliographic and authority metadata with Horizon, DSpace and other discovery tools

• Prepare reports for users and administrators

Requirements:

• Education: A Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University.
• License: Possession of or eligibility for a valid New Jersey certification as a Professional Librarian.
