Description

The Altamont School, a private co-ed college preparatory day school for students in grades 5-12, is seeking to hire afull-time School Librarian. The School Librarian reports directly to the Assistant Head of School and is responsible for managing the resources of the library and for working directly with students and faculty to support the curriculum. The 10-month position must also provide tech support, and work with Administration to facilitate school initiatives needed.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop and maintain the school collection to address student-learning objectives and provide high quality, relevant, and timely information.
  • Teach skills to students and faculty that encourage lifelong learning and the ability to evaluate information.
  • Prepare students for college-level research, including search, evaluation, use of databases, and the research process.
  • Prepare annual plans for library activities based on library usage and statistics, in line with the school’s mission.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports on library usage, outputs, and outcomes for the faculty, administration, and Board.
  • Supervise the library use during the school day and work to make the library accessible to all students, especially those in grades 5-8.
  • Conduct reference interviews with students and faculty to provide high quality, relevant information that meets their needs.
  • Educate students and faculty on database use and other electronic resources and research skills.
  • Consult with faculty regarding curriculum development and the acquisition of relevant sources that will support student learning.
  • Advise administration and Head of School on matters of information literacy, intellectual freedom, and curriculum through monthly reports/meetings.
  • Assess the information literacy needs of the student body and provide regular information literacy sessions in partnership with faculty.
  • Recommend ways that faculty can include information literacy instruction within their classrooms throughout the academicyear.
  • Keep abreast of emerging academic technologies and databases, recommending relevant technologies for school acquisition and use in and out of the classroom and provide instruction for faculty and students when needed.
  • Address issues of accessibility for information sources and ensure that universal design principles are implemented throughout the library’s digital and physical spaces.
Qualifications
  • A Master of Library and Information Science degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association
  • Experience working in technology at the Middle and Upper School level, proficiency in working with multiple platforms, MS Office, social media
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to be supportive; success in working independently and collaboratively
