Connetquot Public Library is seeking a Librarian or Librarian Trainee to join the Children and Family Services Department. The role emphasizes programs for children from infancy through school age, welcoming reference service, and active community engagement at the library.

The position offers a service‑oriented environment with daytime, afternoon, and Friday evening shifts, plus a monthly weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an ALA-accredited master’s program in library science.
• New York State Public Librarian Certificate not required at the Trainee level.
• Master’s degree in Library Science required for Librarian.

Responsabilités

• Plan, prepare, and deliver programs and events for children from infancy through school age, with guidance appropriate to the appointment level.
• Provide welcoming and reliable reference, readers’ advisory, and referral assistance at the Children and Family Services desk.
• Help children and caregivers discover and use the library’s physical and digital resources.
• Maintain a working knowledge of library programs, outreach efforts, and community services.
• Assist with school visits, outreach activities, and events within the library.
• Collaborate with colleagues to create a positive, engaging environment for children and families.
• Support the library’s mission of encouraging curiosity, learning, and lifelong engagement with reading and discovery.

About the Position

Connetquot Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to join our Children and Family Services Department. This position may be filled at the Librarian or Librarian Trainee level, depending on qualifications.

This position offers the opportunity to be part of an evolving library environment where service, education, technology, and community engagement come together to shape how children and families experience the library.

Schedule and Compensation

• Required shifts: Days, Afternoons, Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a monthly Saturday/Sunday rotation.
• Librarian Trainee: $33 per hour.
• Librarian: $38 per hour.

• Strong interest in serving children and families in a public library setting.
