Job summary

SMBC Group is hiring for an Associate or Vice President role in the Securitized Products and Capital Solutions Department. You will work on collateral underwriting for lender finance facilities, reviewing leveraged middle market loans and participating in annual portfolio assessments.

You will develop client relationships with asset managers, support syndication and diligence, and mentor junior staff while contributing to credit decisioning and risk assessment. A hybrid work model is offered.

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of relevant experience in credit analysis, leveraged finance, structured finance, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience in financial statement and credit analysis.
• Understanding of leveraged finance, middle market lending, or structured credit products.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with asset manager clients to support effective collateral management.
• Partner with Origination and Execution teams to address syndication, diligence, and investor inquiries.
• Work with and mentor junior team members.
• Support credit decisioning through valuation analysis and risk assessment.
• Monitor collateral portfolios on an ongoing basis, identifying credit deterioration and key risk trends.
• Review monthly client reporting and assess changes in portfolio composition and performance.
• Conduct detailed financial statement and fundamental credit analysis on leveraged loan collateral.
• Build and maintain financial projection models using SMBC's proprietary tools.
• Evaluate cash flow stability, debt service capacity, and overall creditworthiness of underlying obligors.
• Prepare credit approval materials, including new transactions, upsizes, and reevaluation requests.
• Participate in annual reviews and other periodic portfolio assessments.
