Job summary

Xcel NDT is seeking a Level II UTSW Technician in Kingsport, TN. The role focuses on calibrating equipment, performing nondestructive tests, and evaluating results to determine acceptance or rejection according to written instructions, codes, and standards.

The technician will set up equipment, interpret readings, and maintain detailed records. Candidate must hold NDT Level II UTSW certification and possess a strong technical background in NDT methods.

Qualifications

• NDT Level II UTSW certification is required.

• Additional RT/MT/PT/UTT Level II certifications are preferred.
• Strong technical background in NDT methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Set up and calibrate NDT equipment.
• Conduct tests and evaluate results per applicable codes and specs.
• Interpret readings from various indicators and report results.
• Provide training and supervision to Assistants and Level I Technicians.
• Maintain accurate records of tests and calibrations.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Position Overview

The Level II UTSW Technician will perform calibrations, nondestructive tests, and evaluations to determine acceptance or rejection according to written instructions, applicable codes, standards, and specifications. This role requires the ability to set up and calibrate equipment, interpret and evaluate results, and maintain accurate records. Level II Technicians are expected to be fully knowledgeable about the methods they use, understand their scope and limitations, and provide on-the-job training and guidance to Assistants and Level I Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and calibrate UTSWand other nondestructive testing equipment.
• Conduct tests to ensure quality and detect discontinuities (defects) using approved NDT methods.
• Establish proper examination techniques, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Apply inspection criteria per applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
• Interpret readings from digital displays, radiographs, conductivity meters, or other indicators.
• Organize, document, and report test results accurately.
• Perform specialized inspections as required.
• Provide training and supervision to Assistants and Level I Technicians.
• Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by management.

Education & Experience

• NDT Level II UTSWcertification (required).
• Additional NDT Level II certifications in RT (with OJT and state card), MT, PT, and/or UTT preferred.
• Strong technical background in NDT methods and procedures.
• Proven ability to perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret inspection results.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Requirements

• Pass DISA background check.
• Pass all required drug screenings.
• Complete site-specific safety council training.
• Successfully test out in all required methods with XCEL.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements

• Move, carry and lift objects in excess of 50 pounds
• Climb and perform work from ladders, stairs and scaffolding in excess of 100 feet, continuously throughout shift
• Be able to climb ladders and platforms up to 250 feet with a harness and lanyard
• Be able to step up into vehicles or onto equipment
• Work extended hours and stand for extended periods of time
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments in conditions of extreme heat and cold
