Job summary

Xcel NDT in Columbia, SC is seeking a Level II UTSW Technician to perform calibrations, nondestructive tests, and evaluations per instructions, codes, and specifications. • Additional NDT Level II certifications in RT (with OJT and state card), MT, PT, and/or UTT preferred.
• Strong technical background in NDT methods and procedures.
• Proven ability to perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret inspection results.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Set up and calibrate NDT equipment and related testing devices.
• Conduct tests to detect discontinuities using approved NDT methods.
• Establish examination techniques and ensure safety compliance.
• Apply inspection criteria per specifications and evaluate results.
• Interpret readings from various indicators and document findings.
• Organize, document, and report test results accurately.
• Perform specialized inspections as required.
• Provide training and supervision to Assistants and Level I Technicians.
• Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by management.

Position Overview

The Level II UTSW Technician will perform calibrations, nondestructive tests, and evaluations to determine acceptance or rejection according to written instructions, applicable codes, standards, and specifications. This role requires the ability to set up and calibrate equipment, interpret and evaluate results, and maintain accurate records. Level II Technicians are expected to be fully knowledgeable about the methods they use, understand their scope and limitations, and provide on-the-job training and guidance to Assistants and Level I Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and calibrate UTSWand other nondestructive testing equipment.
• Conduct tests to ensure quality and detect discontinuities (defects) using approved NDT methods.
• Establish proper examination techniques, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Apply inspection criteria per applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
• Interpret readings from digital displays, radiographs, conductivity meters, or other indicators.
• Organize, document, and report test results accurately.
• Perform specialized inspections as required.
• Provide training and supervision to Assistants and Level I Technicians.
• Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by management.

Education & Experience

• NDT Level II UTSWcertification (required).
• Additional NDT Level II certifications in RT (with OJT and state card), MT, PT, and/or UTT preferred.
• Strong technical background in NDT methods and procedures.
• Proven ability to perform assigned NDT tasks and interpret inspection results.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Requirements

• Pass DISA background check.
• Pass all required drug screenings.
• Complete site-specific safety council training.
• Successfully test out in all required methods with XCEL.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements

• Move, carry and lift objects in excess of 50 pounds
• Climb and perform work from ladders, stairs and scaffolding in excess of 100 feet, continuously throughout shift
• Be able to climb ladders and platforms up to 250 feet with a harness and lanyard
• Be able to step up into vehicles or onto equipment
• Work extended hours and stand for extended periods of time
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments in conditions of extreme heat and cold
• Work in and near industrial hazards
