Job summary

5 Star Electric, LLC is seeking a Level II Technician, Splicing to perform mid-level fiber optic splicing on aerial, underground, and ISP projects nationwide. The role requires 1–5 years of splicing experience, OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months), and a high school diploma or equivalent.

Candidates should be proficient in reading prints/drawings, splice matrices, and equipment needs assessment.

  • Determines equipment needs and cable routing; performs splicing within safety guidelines on live sites.
  • Independently performs mid-sheath cable entry using proper tools.
  • Performs mid-level single and/or ribbon splices with large cable counts.
  • Reads test results and troubleshoots issues identified during testing.
  • Installs and researches splice enclosure procedures.

Essential Functions:

The Level II Technician, Splicing, to perform mid-level splicing on a variety of underground, aerial, and ISP projects nationwide. The Splicing Technician has technical knowledge, skills and experience to perform core splicing functions within the telecommunications industry.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Performs mid-level splicing functions for aerial, underground, and ISP cable routing on various projects
  • Ability to read and interpret construction prints, drawings, and splice matrixes to ensure customer requirements are fulfilled
  • Ability to determine equipment needs, cable route, cable direction, safety best practices, and perform splicing functions within a live customer facilit
  • Independently and safely performs mid-sheath cable entry using proper tools
  • Performs mid-level single and/or ribbon splices with the understanding large cable count numbering
  • Ability to read/process test results and problem solve basic issues identified during troubleshooting
  • Proficient in mid-level OTDR and power meter testin
  • Ability to install and/or research installation procedures for all splice enclosure
  • Performs basic cable relocations and hot cuts while maintaining cable organization
  • Effectively communicates with internal (training peers) and external stakeholders (customers, subcontractors, etc.), addressing issues as they arise and offering customer-centric solution
  • Responds timely to critical situations and emergency outages with an appropriate level of urgency
  • Maintains full understanding of safety risks while working in a safety sensitive position, adhering to all safety requirements and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership

Experience and Education:

  • 1-5 years of experience performing fiber optic cable splicing projects require
  • OSHA 10 certification (or ability to acquire within 6 months) require
  • First-aid and/or CPR certifications preferre
  • Valid driver license with the ability to obtain a DOT medical card require
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is Required
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions like sitting, squatting, standing, walking, climbing, etc.
  • When working on site, will be required to wear common protective safety equipment.
  • May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels while onsite.
  • Must endure regular exposure to all weather conditions, including hot, cold, humidity and rain.
