Job summary

5 Star Electric, LLC (5 Star) is seeking a Level II Technician, Splicing to perform mid-level splicing on underground, aerial, and ISP projects nationwide. You will read construction prints, interpret splice matrices, and ensure safety and quality in every splice.

The ideal candidate has 1–5 years of fiber optic splicing experience, OSHA 10 certification, a valid driver's license, and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Experience performing fiber optic splicing on aerial and underground projects.
• Ability to read splice matrices and construction prints.
• Must pass criminal and MVR background checks and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Performs mid-level splicing for aerial, underground, and ISP cable routing on various projects
• Read and interpret prints, drawings, and splice matrices to meet customer requirements
• Independently perform mid-sheath entry and mid-level splices with large cable counts
• Install and research installation procedures for splice enclosures
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to address issues with customer-centric solutions

Essential Functions

The Level II Technician, Splicing, to perform mid-level splicing on a variety of underground, aerial, and ISP projects nationwide.

The Splicing Technician has technical knowledge, skills and experience to perform core splicing functions within the telecommunications industry.

Roles And Responsibilities

• Performs mid-level splicing functions for aerial, underground, and ISP cable routing on various projects
• Ability to read and interpret construction prints, drawings, and splice matrixes to ensure customer requirements are fulfilled
• Ability to determine equipment needs, cable route, cable direction, safety best practices, and perform splicing functions within a live customer facilit
• Independently and safely performs mid-sheath cable entry using proper tools
• Performs mid-level single and/or ribbon splices with the understanding large cable count numbering
• Ability to read/process test results and problem solve basic issues identified during troubleshooting
• Proficient in mid-level OTDR and power meter testin
• Ability to install and/or research installation procedures for all splice enclosure
• Performs basic cable relocations and hot cuts while maintaining cable organization
• Effectively communicates with internal (training peers) and external stakeholders (customers, subcontractors, etc.), addressing issues as they arise and offering customer-centric solution
• Responds timely to critical situations and emergency outages with an appropriate level of urgency
• Maintains full understanding of safety risks while working in a safety sensitive position, adhering to all safety requirements and standards
• Performs other duties as assigned by leadership

Experience And Education

• 1-5 years of experience performing fiber optic cable splicing projects require
• OSHA 10 certification (or ability to acquire within 6 months) require
• First-aid and/or CPR certifications preferre
• Valid driver license with the ability to obtain a DOT medical card require
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is Required
• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions like sitting, squatting, standing, walking, climbing, etc.
• When working on site, will be required to wear common protective safety equipment.
• May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels while onsite.
• Must endure regular exposure to all weather conditions, including hot, cold, humidity and rain.
